Tough Call
When the Tournament committee made the decision to cancel the 73rd Tournament it was tough for many reasons. However the conditions and forecast made it an easy call for the committee. Our committee takes everything in account knowing that over 600 people are expected for the tournament. From August till tournament prevailing NE winds and storms eroded beach conditions. The toughest implications go out to our participants, volunteers, sponsor’s and vendors. Many had traveled here ready to fish or judge the tournament. Good news is the town of Nags Head has approved beach nourishment and that will be complete by early fall. We all are looking forward to 2026 and hosting the 73rd Tournament!
Letter to our Members
Since our early founding the Club has always given back to the fishing community providing tournaments, events and even grants years ago. Of course much has changed over the years and we will continue evolve in the future. The Club has always run a very fine line with your finances. We run a pretty balanced budget with basically a zero balance from year to year, depending on donations and raffles. Over the past decade a number of circumstances have caused our limited reserves to decline. Three tournaments cancelled due to weather and COVID had an impact. On the positive side over the past 5 years we have been receiving funds in the form of grants from the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau for our tournaments, totaling $4000 to $5000 a year. Additionally we have made other changes to our overhead to save over the past few years. The newsletter and yearly dues notice will be emailed, however you can request mailings. At this point we will mail to those who don’t acknowledge they have reviewed this newsletter, so please let us know you’ve received it. This past year we started to solicit corporate sponsors for the tournaments and this is gaining ground, we did have $2000 in sponsorships this past year. If you know of any business or person that would like to support us with a corporate sponsorship or donation either of the tournaments, please let us know. We do have an opening on the Board for anyone interested and are always welcome for ideas. Contact us at: candi@nagsheadsurffingclub.com. We are looking forward to a great year of fishing and fellowship, see you on the beach!
