Fritz Boyden was a member of the Nags Head Surf fishing Club for over 30 years.  He was dedicated to fishing and everything that was a part of fishing.  He was known for saying "if you take your kids fishing, they will never get in trouble.  1967, to further his belief that taking kids fishing teaches them some very important fact of life, he started the youth tournament for the NHSFC.  In the beginning it was a small event with just a few participants.  Each year the event has grown. The kids are invited to fish on one of the piers for a 50 cent entry fee. The 36th Annual Fritz Boyden Memorial Youth Tournament was held on June 20, 2007.  The 220 participants from 14 different states, even from "across the pond" in England fished from the Avalon Pier, Nags Head Pier and the Outer Banks pier.  The Awards ceremony was held in the parking lot of Ramada Plaza Hotel, and the winners received rod and reel combinations, trophies and other prizes.  Spcail thanks to Walmart, Cisco Foods, TW's Bait and Tackle, and the Ramada Plaza for their donations.  The annual youth tournament is sponsored by Nags Head Surf Fishing club, The North Carolina Beach Buggy Association and the N.C. Sea Hags Fishing Team.
